about i4SM

the institute for social media

The Institute for Social Media is a joint initiative between the ONE-Manchester partnership (which is led by the Manchester Digital Development Agency – MDDA), Manchester Business School and other partners, and is linked to the proposed Matrix Digital Cooperative. It aims to provide a new collaborative platform for social innovation, exploring how new technology and media support the development of new social infrastructure, in the form of businesses, governance arrangements and community. The institute aims to assist Manchester’s standing as a digital city-region and knowledge hub. As part of this, it seeks to learn from experiences across the globe, including North America, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia.

ONE-Manchester

ONE-Manchester is a consortium involving the MDDA, led by Manchester City Council, and partners from across Greater Manchester, including Tameside, Oldham and Salford local authorities, the voluntary and community sector and the private sector.

Matrix Digital Cooperative

The Matrix Digital Cooperative is a consortium involving the ONE-Manchester partnership with specific support from the Cooperative Movement to establish a “digital cooperative” which would provide the organisational structure to create a sustainable business model for ONE-Manchester and its projects, both at local and national level.
